MUMBAI, INDIA---April 4, 2014---GE (NYSE: GE) today introduced the 1.7-103 wind turbine, its first wind turbine developed and engineered specifically for India's low-wind speed conditions. For wind farm operators, the turbine's large 103-meter rotor will help deliver high-efficiency output and attractive project economics. The 1.7-103 also provides a 30 percent increase in annual energy production compared to its predecessor, the 1.6-82.5 wind turbine.
GE continues to work towards developing advanced technology solutions that improve the quality of life in India. The launch of the 1.7-103 is another key step in strengthening its deep commitment to India. A 100-megawatt wind farm powered by 1.7-103 turbines can generate the electricity required to fulfill the needs of 413,000 Indian homes per year and offset carbon emissions of 291,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
India is rapidly increasing its power generation using renewable energy. Renewables now constitute more than 5 percent of India's energy mix by production and 12 percent by installed capacity.
The cost of wind power in particular is now close to grid parity, and advancement in technology is making its generation more predictable.
This turbine uses GE's evolutionary technology platform and is based on the success of the 22,000 GE wind turbines installed globally.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio --- April 3, 2014 --- (NYSE:GE) --- GE Lighting has expanded its award-winning Albeo™ LED high bay lighting portfolio to offer greater efficacy than previous generations and to meet the latest global standards.
GE's Albeo™ ABH2-Series and ABHG-Series LED Luminaires offer an ideal modular lighting solution for retrofit and new construction of warehouses, manufacturing facilities, cold storage, sports arenas, convention centers and other commercial spaces with high ceilings. With greater foot-candle performance and a life rating of 100,000 hours at L70, the new LED lighting fixtures help to increase light levels while reducing lighting energy costs and associated maintenance.

It is available in 15 lumen packages that deliver more light while consuming less energy than ABHX, resulting in shorter paybacks for end users. The ABHG-Series offers a customizable design that can accommodate up to four modules, is available in a CE-certified version and optimizes the LED system inside the fixture to yield even greater energy efficiency.
The new LED lighting fixtures feature the same innovative heat-sinking and improved LED technology, as well as various lensing options to provide optimized illumination with minimal glare and improved uniformity for open floor and racked aisle environments. The fixtures' strong, durable aluminum housing also make them ideal for manufacturing and sporting environments where harsh conditions and traveling debris can interfere with and damage lighting structures.
Both LED lighting fixtures can replace a range of legacy high bay lighting systems---250-watt to 1500-watt high-intensity discharge (HID) and four- to eight-lamp T5/T8 high-intensity fluorescent lighting, which typically burn out after 20,000-30,000 hours. STROEVO, BULGARIA---April 2, 2014---To reduce Bulgaria's heavy dependence on imported energy, a landmark biomass-to-energy plant powered by GE's (NYSE: GE) Jenbacher gas engine technology is being built near Stroevo, in Plovdiv province.
The 5-megawatt (MW) Karlovo plant will use three of GE's fuel-flexible, robust and high-efficiency Jenbacher engines---one J612 and two J620 units---powered by syngas derived from straw and wood chips and will produce enough electricity to power 2,000 homes. Such organic waste is normally difficult to gasify effectively, but tight integration of EQTEC Iberia's biomass-gasification technology with GE's proven gas engines will provide high levels of emissions performance, efficiency and economy.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2014, the plant is being built by EQTEC Iberia, part of Spanish holding company Ebioss Energy AD (MAB: EBI). It is the latest development in Ebioss' strategy to apply its Integrated Biomass Gasification Cogeneration Power Plant (IBGPP) technology throughout Europe to help countries reduce their dependence on foreign energy supplies and to increase the proportion of energy from renewable sources. The country's target is for 16 percent of its energy demand to be met by domestic renewable sources by 2020, but at present more than 70 percent of its energy is from imported natural gas and oil.[1]
"Gasifying biomass for energy usage---in this case, straw and wood chips---requires special know-how, and our engineers and GE's team worked as one team to integrate EQTEC Gasifier Technology and GE's power generation technologies for improved performance and economics," said Luis Sanchez CEO, EBIOSS. "The IBGPP plant we developed achieves a far higher electrical efficiency than the thermal technologies traditionally used in a plant of this size. For example, a typical Rankine thermal cycle-based plant offers an electrical efficiency of 18 to 20 percent from converting biomass to electricity compared to using GE's Jenbacher gas engines that offer approximately 28 percent electrical efficiency and almost 70 percent total combined heat and power efficiency. This will enable us to deploy the IBGPP technology economically with GE elsewhere in Bulgaria and in other nations to help them enjoy greater energy independence and fuel diversity."
Syngas is attractive because it is a continually renewable fuel that enables power to be produced economically on-site at the point of use, reducing losses inherent in electrical transmission. It also helps to solve a waste-disposal problem by converting organic wastes into fuel. With the EQTEC Gasifier Technology, steam and hot water can be generated with no reduction in output power, so overall plant efficiency will be much higher when the plant is used for district heating or other cogeneration applications in addition to power production.
"Using syngas as a fuel is uncommon in such plants and represents an innovative solution to the energy challenges Bulgaria and many other nations face; however, it is challenging to develop an integrated gasification design that doesn't produce syngas containing impurities that can foul engines. The selection of technologies to work together is important; and the Karlovo plant features EQTEC Gasifier Technology, which produces cleaner syngas," said Leon van Vurren, global sales leader, Jenbacher gas engines for GE's Distributed Power business. "At the same time, GE has a proven technology suited to this type of application---GE's Jenbacher gas engine, which has fuel flexibility and robustness that make it known for its performance even with non-traditional fuel gases."
This isn't the first time EQTEC and GE have worked together. The collaboration debuted in 2008 with an IBGPP cogeneration plant in Spain at the alcohol distillery of the company MOSTOS, VINOS Y ALCOHOLES, SA (MOVIALSA) at Campo de Criptana in the La Mancha region. The plant is fueled by the gasification of residual materials from olive oil production. It uses three J620 Jenbacher engines producing a total of 5.9 MW of electricity, 5,600 Kg/h of saturated steam at 6 bar and 159 m3/h of hot water at 90°C, which are used by the distillery. Together, these yield an overall plant efficiency of 63.8 percent.

Organizations are recognized in the following categories:

Partner of the Year--Sustained Excellence: The 72 Sustained Excellence winners continue to exhibit exceptional leadership year after year in the Energy Star program while remaining dedicated to environmental protection through superior energy efficiency.

Partner of the Year: Forty-five organizations are receiving the Partner of the Year award for strategically and comprehensively managing their energy use. These organizations promote Energy Star products and practices in their own operations, in addition to providing efficient products and services to consumers and within their community.

Partner of the Year--Climate Communications: The 10 Climate Communications winners have raised their customers’ awareness of the impacts of climate change. These partners have created communications that encourage their customers to combat climate change with the help of Energy Star and emphasize how energy-efficient behaviors have a positive effect on the environment.

Excellence: Nine winners are receiving awards in part for their superior efforts in the Home Performance with Energy Star program. The remaining organizations are receiving Excellence Awards for specific activities to promote energy-efficient products, homes, or buildings.
