Boeing Energy Conservation Program Lauded by EPA

CHICAGO, April 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a 2017 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award for the company's continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency. Boeing will receive the award April 26 in Washington, D.C. This is the seventh consecutive year Boeing has been recognized by ENERGY STAR.

Beverly Wyse, president of Boeing Shared Services Group, will accept the ENERGY STAR award on behalf of Boeing.

During 2016, Boeing improved energy efficiency, invested in key energy infrastructure and continued public outreach with its conservation message. Boeing's key 2016 accomplishments in the U.S. include:

• Improving energy efficiency by 4.1 percent, a cumulative improvement of over 40 percent since 2009, all while reducing absolute energy consumption in 2016 by 2 percent and still delivering commercial aircraft at near-record levels.
• Absolute energy reduction of 863,000 MMBtu — equivalent to the annual energy use for 23,000 average U. S. homes.
• Replacing over 6,000 inefficient lighting fixtures with more energy-saving LEDs and making direct energy conservation investments of $6.7 million to reduce energy use by over 77,000 MMBtu annually.
• Expanding the company's environmental "Build a Better Planet" website to enhance employee engagement and share conservation messages and best practices in key forums and conferences.
• Expanding the Everett, Wash., site by 1.5 million square feet to include a new composite wing center built to LEED Silver specifications. Everett is home to the largest contiguous building by volume in the world.
• Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent or 228,000 metric tons and water intake by 6 percent or 517 million gallons since 2012.

Paris, March 27th 2017 – GE Renewable Energy was selected by Chinese Fuqing Haixia Electricity Generation Company (a joint venture between China Three Gorges and Fujian Energy) to deliver three HaliadeTM 150-6MW offshore wind turbines to the Fujian Xinghua Gulf demo project. The contract includes technical support and a two year operation and maintenance service.

GE Renewable Energy is one of the several wind turbine suppliers to participate in the 73MW windfarm project, capable to provide enough power to satisfy the needs of more than 20,000 households in the region.

John Lavelle, President & CEO of GE’s Offshore Wind Business, “Our state-of-the-art Haliade 150-6MW wind turbine has proven to be a very flexible product that can be customized to the local needs. When finished, GE will be the only supplier in the world to have installed offshore wind turbines in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and we are looking forward to continue a successful offshore journey in China and Asia.”

The three nacelles and generators will be manufactured at GE’s Offshore Wind facility in Saint-Nazaire (France), whereas towers and blades will be manufactured locally in China (Chengxi) and Denmark respectively.

Installation is expected to take place during the last quarter of 2017, and once finished, GE will provide a two year operation and maintenance service along with technical support.

The Fujian Xinghua Gulf demo project is a stepping stone in China’s offshore ambitions. Chinese authorities have announced additional investments in renewable energy sector, which will put the nation as the leading clean energy player in the world.

BIG NEWS: Wind power is now the #1 source of renewable energy generation in America! 

That’s according to a new report published today by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), which found that the U.S. wind industry has surpassed 82 gigawatts of installed capacity — enough to power more than 20 million homes — putting it just ahead of hydropower for the first time ever.

According to AWEA, Texas leads the nation in installed wind capacity by a sizeable margin with 20,321 megawatts, followed by Iowa with 6,917 megawatts. Oklahoma actually leapfrogged California in the new report, boasting 6,645 megawatts and 5,662 megawatts, respectively. Wind energy is also a rapidly growing source of jobs. More than 100,000 people were employed by the U.S. wind industry last year, an increase of 32 percent from 2015.
