Johnson Controls responds to President Obama's State of the Union Address

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 13, 2013 -- Johnson Controls, a global leader in delivering solutions that increase energy efficiency in buildings, issued the following statement today from Dave Myers, president, Johnson Controls Building Efficiency responding to President Obama's State of the Union Address.

"The President’s call for energy efficiency will have the dual benefit of making our economy stronger and our air cleaner. Energy efficiency bridges the economy and the environment by saving money, producing jobs and reducing carbon pollution.

"One area that will have a significant impact is energy efficiency in buildings since they consume 40 percent of the country’s energy. The track record shows that energy use in buildings can be reduced on average by 25 percent. This creates savings for U.S. businesses while using local labor to generate the cost reductions. In the U.S, there are 72 billion square feet of commercial real estate and most of it is not energy efficient. The potential to improve is significant.

"Pursuing energy efficiency is the financially responsible way to address the concerns of climate change and create jobs in the United States. Energy efficiency is the most sustainable path toward energy security because reducing energy waste is the cleanest and lowest-cost source of energy.”
