From U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy:
#Hydropower is America’s leading source of renewable#energy, providing about 7% of #US #electricity. There are more than 80,000 non-powered dams in the U.S. that could potentially provide up to 12 gigawatts of energy at a lower cost than creating new powered dam structures. Today, we announced an inventive program for developers adding hydroelectric power generation to existing non-powered dams throughout the United States. Learn more: http://go.usa.gov/zAxe.
