From the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy:
Plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) ownership growth continues in #America. Almost 120,000 electric vehicles were sold in the U.S. in 2014, a 23% jump from 2013 and a 128% jump from 2012. The selection of models is also on the rise, with more than 31 new plug-in hybrid and all electric vehicles available from 11 automakers. The Energy Department is supporting this growth through the EV Everywhere Grand Challenge, focused on the U.S. becoming the first nation in the world to produce #PEVs that are as affordable for the average American family by 2022 as a 2012 baseline gasoline-powered vehicle. This week, Energy Department Secretary Ernest Moniz signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Edison Electric Institute to advance our mutual goals of increasing the #economic, #environmental and national security benefits from using #electricity as a#transportation fuel.
