Biorefinery in Kansas

From the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy:

This pictured biorefinery in #Kansas opened last October with support from the Energy Department and is very unique. It produces cellulosic #ethanol used to fuel vehicles from non-edible corn stalks, stems and leaves. We’re working to advance this technology even more so biofuels made from waste are less expensive and increase America’s #energy independence. Scientists at our National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently developed an enzyme that can convert #biomass from agricultural residue to sugars faster and cheaper than the catalysts that are currently used in #biofuel production.
