Underwater Robot

Nicknamed the “Millennium Falcon,” researchers from the University of Washington, are using research funds from our office to develop an underwater robot to monitor the interaction between marine life and wave and tidal #energy equipment. Equipped with a sonar system, cameras and microphones, this device will allow for the real time monitoring of aquatic organisms. While this “Millennium Falcon” may not reach warp speed in true Star Wars fashion, it will help the #USresponsibly capture the clean, renewable energy in our waves, currents and tides. Trucks Fueled by Natural Gas

Heavy duty trucks such as these fueled by natural gas are better for the environment and use much less oil than their diesel counterparts. Recently, our National Clean Fleets partner Ryder System, Inc. announced its vehicle fleet has run more than 30 million miles on liquefied and compressed natural gas. Since joining our program in 2011, the company has replaced approximately 4.6 million gallons of diesel fuel with domestically-produced natural gas. Through this program, businesses across #America are expanding use of alternative fuels and saving #money on fuel. Learn more about this partnership with Ryder Systems:http://go.usa.gov/hNKx.

Johnson Controls supplies energy efficient York chillers for Kuwait University
York chillers will help 6 million square-meter campus become one of the most energy efficient in the world
KUWAIT – (February 2, 2015) –Kuwait University’s Shadadiyah Campus will be cooled by 36 energy efficient York centrifugal chillers from Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company. The 6 million square-meter campus is designed to be one of the most energy efficient campuses in the world, home to 40,000 students and more than 10,000 faculty and staff.
The York chillers will help the university reduce energy and operational costs while operating under extreme weather conditions where entering condenser water temperatures can reach 97°F at 122°F.
“Every dollar saved with energy efficiency is an investment in educational programs,” said Claude Allain, vice president and general manager, Middle East, Johnson Controls. “We work with universities throughout the world to significantly reduce utility costs and ensure that financial resources remain directed towards quality education.”
Schools and universities worldwide work with Johnson Controls to create quality learning environments while reducing the environmental impact. Johnson Controls is helping the University of Hawaii Community College, save more than $80 million in energy and utility costs.
“We are delighted to be associated with the first district cooling project in Kuwait and commend the university for their commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Dr. Marcus Schumacher, vice president, Distribution Channels, Alliances and Strategy, Johnson Controls. “Our chillers exceeded the client’s strict efficiency requirements and will accelerate their return on investment.
The centrifugal chillers feature environmentally friendly refrigerant and will be installed in a series counter-flow arrangement to ensure an additional 6 percent efficiency gain.
