NREL visualization work is being featured at the U.S. Department of Energy booth at SC Conference #SC15this week.

An exploratory visualization of electric vehicle thermal management systems. 

Climate control can reduce an electric vehicle's (EV) range by more than 50%. NREL is investigating highly optimized thermal management systems for load reduction. The visualization shows streamlines depicting airflow and temperature from a computational fluid dynamics simulation of an EV cabin zonal cooling strategy.

New Technology Honored

A technology developed at NREL has been honored byR&D Magazine as a winner of a coveted R&D 100 award as well as an Editor's Choice award.

The technology uses a strain of cyanobacteria to produce bioethylene. This process avoids the use of petroleum, the typical method, to produce ethylene, a hydrocarbon critical to the production of chemicals and plastics. http://www.nrel.gov/news/press/2015/21592
